Very few narrow-gauge light railways were ever built in England (unlike Wales) for commercial purposes, and the Leighton Buzzard Railway is an authentic survivor of this rare and bygone mode of transport.

All of the light-railway characteristics are here–steep gradients, sharp corners, roadside running, and lots of level crossings over roads, footpaths and field entrances. There is even a disused quarry branch line. The originally rural setting of the railway is now partly suburban, but for many that adds a new dimension, with elderly steam engines trundling incongruously through modern housing estates.

There is nothing quite like the Leighton Buzzard Railway anywhere else, so come and see it for yourself!
